SculpSure vs CoolSculpting: Which is the Better Body Contouring Procedure?

Both CoolSculpting and SculpSure are non-surgical body sculpting procedures that can help you meet your desired goals.

CoolSculpting carries some risks that SculpSure does not, but both procedures are minimally invasive.

Comparing SculpSure vs CoolSculpting:

SculpSure

  • Uses topical laser treatment to reduce underlying fat by destroying fat cells safely
  • Procedure time of 25 minutes
  • No recovery period
  • Permanent results

CoolSculpting

  • Uses controlled cooling to freeze and eliminate fat cells
  • Procedure time of 1 hour
  • May result in tenderness, bruising, or itchiness of treated area
  • Permanent results
  • Risk of paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (PAH), where a reaction in the fat cells causes them to expand and the treated area to protrude

SculpSure vs CoolSculpting: Making the Choice

Neither procedure is meant for weight loss but for shaping and refining problems areas where fat deposits. However, when these procedures are combined with an active lifestyle and healthy diet, they can result in some weight reduction.

What You Need to Know About PAH After CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting, also known as cryolipolysis, has an increased procedure time, and also an increased risk of paradoxical adipose hyperplasia. The manufacturer of CoolSculpting equipment reports that PAH is a rare side effect and only occurs in an estimated 1 out of every 4,000 treatment cycles.

However, according to two doctors of Miami Plastic Surgery, they have experienced 15 PAH events in six patients which represents a much higher incidence of the risk, about 1 out of every 138 cryolipolysis cycles. The doctors at Miami Plastic Surgery stress the need for further study to clarify the incidence of PAH after CoolSculpting.

PAH can be corrected through SmartLipo or liposuction, though this may require a surgery which can defeat the purpose of choosing a non-surgical body sculpting procedure for many patients. Patients also need to wait several months before undergoing liposuction as time is needed for the fat in the areas of PAH to soften.

When deciding between SculpSure and Coolsculpting consult with your expert plastic surgeon at Bruno|Brown Plastic Surgery to determine which body contouring procedure is right for you.

At Bruno|Brown Plastic Surgery our specialists customize a treatment plan that fits your circumstances. This is important because the number of treatments needed for optimal results can vary.
