Everything You Need to Know About Getting a Breast Augmentation in Washington, DC

Bruno | Brown Plastic Surgery is one of the top-rated practices for breast augmentations in Washington, DC. We understand getting surgery can be stressful, and we are here to help.

What is breast augmentation in Washington, DC?

A breast augmentation, sometimes referred to as a “breast aug” or “boob job” by patients, involves using breast implants or fat transfer to increase the size of your breasts. Breast augmentation surgery helps to reshape and resize the breasts to create the patient’s desired look.

Why get a breast augmentation in Washington, DC?

  • A before and after breast augmentation surgery Build confidence– Breast augmentation surgery allows you to reshape your appearance. Every woman has those swimsuit insecurities; breast augmentation helps to make sure you fill out that bikini the way you want to so you can feel confident and comfortable in your skin.
  • Enhanced breast size– Sometimes, your breast size doesn’t reflect the rest of your body. A Washington, DC, breast augmentation surgery can help improve the size of your breasts to the level you would like.
  • Uneven breastsBreast asymmetry is extremely common for women of all ages. In fact, over half of all women have breast asymmetry. Through breast augmentation, we can make it so that your breasts are symmetrical.

Breast augmentation options:

  • Saline implants: A silicone shell that is filled to increase the size and shape of your breasts.
  • Silicone implants: A thicker option and a more natural-looking silicone shell filled to the desired volume.
  • Ideal implants: Using multiple implant shells together and two separate chambers that hold saline, giving a more natural feel and youthful look.
  • Fat grafting: Using liposuction to transfer fat from other parts of the body to the breasts, giving a fuller look.

What to expect during your breast augmentation surgery:

  1. Consultation: Sit down with your doctors and discuss surgery. This is where you determine the size and shape and how the surgery will take place. The consultation is the most crucial step; even if you have the most qualified doctors, discussing your desired results and understanding the surgery process and what to expect are key.
  2. Pre-Surgery: Before the surgery, your surgeon will do a complete health assessment to ensure you and your body can handle the surgery. After this, they will walk you through the surgery and recovery.
  3. Post-Surgery: After the surgery is finished, you will be discharged. The surgeons will discuss recovery times (they differ depending on the person) and the best way to take care of your new breasts.

There are two different types of rhinoplasties; open and closed.

  • During an open rhinoplasty, incisions are made to the tissue between the nostril and the nose crease.
  • During a closed rhinoplasty, incisions to the inside of the nose through the nostrils.

On average, surgery time is typically around 2-3 hours for both the open and closed procedure, with no overnight hospital stay required. The recovery time following surgery is typically 2-3 weeks but can vary based on the patient.

Considering Treatments for Your Double Chin? Here’s What You Need to Know…

Your Top 3 Double Chin Reduction Treatment Optionskybella before after images

If you are looking to tighten up from a medical procedure, you have three main options:

Kybella: Kybella is a non-invasive procedure that contours the chin for a more defined jawline. The treatment reduces excess fat by destroying fat cells in the target area. This gives a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin, eliminating the double chin look. The most significant difference between Kybella, a neck lift, and Chin Liposuction is that Kybella is non-invasive.

Neck Lift: A neck lift predominately addresses the neck bands and excess skin below the jawline. This can go hand in hand with a facelift procedure. If you have sagging skin around the neck or chin area, a facelift/neck lift can remove excess skin. This is a common treatment for aging skin.

Chin Liposuction: Liposuction for your chin involves an invasive surgical procedure. Depending on the patient’s preference, this procedure can be done under a local anesthetic or a general anesthetic.

To achieve a defined jawline, the fat is removed along the side of the jawline as well as the chin. During the procedure, doctors administer numbing medicine to the area and then remove the excess fat through suction. This is done by utilizing a thin metal tube or cannula.

Below is a video of how chin liposuction (also called submittal liposuction) is completed:

How Do You Decide the Best Double Chin Treatment for You?

Each treatment has different advantages. Having specific goals in mind for your body contouring process is essential. For example, some procedure results tend to be more dramatic; some require multiple treatments, etc. If you are looking to remove chin fat or tighten your jawline but are unsure about which treatment is right for you, our office can provide expert analysis to help you make the right decision.

Our board-certified plastic surgeons are considered some of the area’s top-rated plastic surgeons, serving the greater Washington, DC metro area, including Maryland and Northern Virginia. 4 Top Tips to Choose the Best Breast Implant for You

Deciding on which breast implant you want to have can be an overwhelming and intimidating process. Luckily, there are many factors about your lifestyle, habits, body shape, and more that can make this decision a lot easier.

Tip 1: Determine what type of breast implant is best for you
Breast implants before and after

Choosing which type of breast implant to get may appear to be just as overwhelming as choosing a size, but the truth is, it’s a very simple process.

There are two types of implants; silicone and saline:

  • Saline implants, as the name implies, is an implant filled with salt water. This implant feels a little bit like a water balloon but is overall a great implant.
  • Silicone implants, on the other hand, feels very natural. This type of implant is filled with a gel that has a density and texture similar to breast tissue. Because of this, most patients opt for a silicone implant.

Tip 2: Understand the difference between cup size and implant size

Breast implants are measured by exact volume in cubic centimeters (cc’s), which is different than a cup size. So while a cup size might give you an estimated range of the overall breast size you are trying or able to achieve, it will not be able to fully help you choose a specific breast implant size.

In addition to this, bra cup sizes can vary wildly from retailer to retailer, which makes them even more unreliable. However, a cup size can still point your plastic surgeon in the right direction for the overall look you are going for with your breast augmentation procedure.

Tip 3: Know the profile you want from your breast implants

Whether or not you want your breast implant to look fuller or more natural is based on personal preference. The implant profile affects the projection of your breast implants and will determine how far off your chest your breasts will be. Although they are not directly related to the implant size, the implant profile can affect how large or natural your breasts appear.

Breast implants come in five different profiles:

  1. Low
  2. Low plus
  3. Moderate
  4. Full
  5. Extra full

The greater the profile of your breast implant, the greater the height of your breast side wall. Most patients looking for bigger cleavage aren’t as concerned that their implants look natural, and choose higher, fuller profile implants, as do patients with very narrow breasts.

Tip 4: Consider your lifestyle when choosing breast implants

It’s important to note that implants can suit any lifestyle; that being said, during your consultation, the doctors will walk through your unique routine and habits to help you determine the best implant size, shape, and placement.

If you love an active lifestyle, larger implants might not be the best fit. For example, an avid runner might find larger implants obtrusive.

As Dr. Brown says, “if you’re the type of person that doesn’t want your mother-in-law to know,” going with a lower projected implant could be a better option.
