Breast augmentation is among the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery procedures, a very popular procedure for women. A saline-filled or silicone gel-filled implant is inserted through small incisions either in the crease under the breast, around the nipple or through the armpit. The implant can be placed under the breast tissue or beneath the chest wall muscle. After surgery, breasts will appear “fuller” and more shapely in contour. Often, patients will elect to have a breast lift or mastopexy performed at the same time as the augmentation. This combination of procedures can increase both firmness and size.
