Skin Specialist, Sara answers the most common questions about PRP Injections, a natural product created from your body that combats signs of aging.
Q: What can I expect during my PRP treatment?
A:
Upon your arrival, we collect one tube of blood and spin it down to obtain the PRP, after we prepare the PRP for injections, one of our Doctors will then mark the area to be treated and inject accordingly
Q: What areas can be treated with PRP?
A:
Any area can be treated with PRP, but PRP is mostly done under the eyes, crow’s feet, nasolabial folds, perioral wrinkles (smokers lines), the cheek area for collagen/elasticity loss.
Q: How many sessions does it take to be effective?
A:
We suggest doing 2-3 sessions, depending on the damage. Often times PRP alone is not enough to repair or to see a significant difference, which is we highly suggest pairing it with other treatments such as Laser Skin Resurfacing, Micro-Needling, and Deep Chemical Peels for optimal results.
Q: Does the treatment hurt?
A:
It can be uncomfortable, especially around the mouth area as there are more nerve endings.
Q: Is it more effective for under eye bags/dark circles than fillers?
A:
Some patients like to pair the injections with filler or Botox because while they give you an instant fix, the PRP is injected to actually rebuild and repair area (while the fillers are giving you a smoother more youthful appearance immediately).
Q: Is there any downtime?
A:
Directly after the injections, the skin will be puffy and swollen due to the amount of fluid that is injected. Several hours after the injections, it begins to go down as your body resorbs the fluid. Bruising can last up to a week so we do suggest planning accordingly. We send patients home with camouflage makeup that won’t irritate the skin but will help hide any small bruises.
Q: How long do results last?
A:
One important thing to remember is PRP injections are not a quick fix. PRP is something to rebuild and lay a foundation for long-term anti-aging and repair. It’s a great tool for patients who are looking to really begin a strict skin regimen and want to reverse a lot of the damage that has already been done. The PRP can stay in the body for approximately 15 months, and during this time it repairs and rebuilds.
