• Tissue expander: This is a process that involves placing an expander underneath the skin and filling it gradually to stretch the skin, making room for an implant. Most patients undergo this first step before determining their subsequent treatment plan.
• Flap reconstruction: The DIEP flap uses your own tissue from the lower abdomen to reconstruct the breast. In this procedure, no muscle is used, just the fat and skin alone.
• Breast Implants: Direct-to-implant reconstruction may be possible if there is sufficient tissue and skin on the chest wall. Depending on which approach is best for you, we can immediately reconstruct your breast above the pectoral muscle or under the pectoral muscle.
• Muscle animation: By repositioning the pectoralis muscle in previously-reconstructed patients, we can restore the natural position and function of chest muscles.
