What is a mommy makeover?

Our bodies can do incredible things, but sometimes see aesthetic changes as a result. As we age, stretch our skin, and move through different stages of our lives, our bodies change with us. Having children is a blessing, but they can also “bless” us with sagging breasts, loose skin, lax abdominal muscles, and an overall body shape that feels less than desirable. The procedures included in a mommy makeover could include:

  • Breast Lift: Removes excess skin and lifts the breast tissue to elevate the breast. Can be paired with breast augmentation or reduction.
  • Breast Augmentation: Breasts can lose volume during pregnancy or weight loss, so use of implants or fat grafting enhance the size, shape, and volume of the breast.
  • Breast Reduction: Breasts may grow, especially during pregnancy. Reducing the breast will relieve pain, enhance shape, and adjust size.
  • Tummy Tuck: Removes excess skin caused by stretched skin during pregnancy or weight loss. It also tightens the abdominal muscle, which can be severely affected during pregnancy.
  • Liposuction: Suctions unwanted fat from target areas. This fat can be reused for fat grafting.
  • or other body contouring and enhancing procedures discussed with your doctor.

What kind of tummy tuck should I get with my mommy makeover in DC?

Many patients opt to include the tummy tuck in their mommy makeover because it specifically focuses on restoring your abdomen, but you don’t have to have a baby to have this done. DC tummy tucks are also common after significant weight loss. A tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, addresses your problem areas by removing unwanted stubborn fat and tissue around the waistline and stomach.

There are various types of tummy tucks. Your doctor will discuss which tummy tuck will be right for you when you discuss your current situation and desired outcome.

  • Mini Tummy Tuck: Patients in need of only a small amount of excess fat and skin removed may only require a mini tummy tuck, requiring a smaller incision and less surgery time.
  • Regular Tummy Tuck: The most common tummy tuck ranges from hip to hip, removing excess fat and loose skin from an individual’s entire abdominal area.
  • Extended Tummy Tuck: While this procedure is extremely similar to a regular tummy tuck, the targeted area extends beyond the hips, often including a liposuction contour within the desired area. Individuals who want to remove excess skin and fat in the lower back and hips may be recommended this procedure for best results.
  • Circumferential Tummy Tuck: A 360-degree tummy tuck removes excess skin and fat from the entire torso, generally most suitable for individuals who have faced significant weight loss, resulting in excess skin and fat in the abdomen, hips, and back.

What should I expect during a mommy makeover consultation?

Consultations with your doctor are especially important when it comes to mommy makeovers. Because every patient is different and the procedure involves various options, you and your doctor will need to discuss your current concerns, ideal goal, and possible options. Your doctor will help define your ideas with a plan that is specific to your situation. You will discuss the following during your consultation:

  • Rejuvenation of the abdomen
  • Liposuction
  • Breast lift
  • Breast enhancement
  • Body contouring techniques
  • Lifestyle and activity levels

Depending on your goals, some of these may apply, and some may not. It’s important to have open communication with your plastic surgeon in order to ensure the best results.

Benefits of Deep Plane Facelifts in Washington, DC

Top reasons why you should consider getting a deep plane facelift in Washington, DC

Feeling like you need a lift? Wanting to give your face a refreshed and youthful look? A deep plane facelift might be exactly what you need. A modern twist on the traditional facelift, the deep plane facelift focuses on seamlessly binding the skin with just enough tension to gently lift the face while preventing harsh pulling.

Why do patients get facelifts?

As we get older, our skin begins to lose the laxity needed to maintain a fresh and youthful appearance. Many patients get facelifts to improve the jowling and droopiness of the skin on their face. Problem areas could include:

  • Fullness of the upper eyelid
  • Drooping lower eyelid, also known as under eye bags
  • Hollowness of the cheek
  • Jowling of the cheek
  • Loose skin on the neck
  • Loss of definition in the jawline
  • Etc.

What are the benefits of a Washington, DC deep plane facelift?

Facelifts are a wonderful solution to the problems listed above, but people are often turned away from the idea because they don’t want to look “botched”. When done wrong, a facelift can create too much tension in the skin and result in a permanently surprised expression.

Here at Bruno | Brown, we take pride in the extensive research and experience we have in facial plastic surgery. Our doctors stay up to date on the latest innovations and techniques in order to deliver the best results for our patients. Drs. Bruno and Brown are both board certified, Chiefs of Plastic Surgery, and award-winning doctors. Dr. Yalamanchili is one of only a handful of surgeons in the nation who has completed a plastic surgery residency as well as a facial plastic surgery fellowship. Her facial plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship was done at the Lasky Clinic in Beverly Hills, California where she specialized in:

  • Both functional and cosmetic rhinoplasty
  • Deep plane facelift
  • Midface lift
  • Endoscopic browlift

The deep plane facelift is the best technique when improving the skin of the face. During this procedure, the doctor will create a fascial flap underneath the skin. By separating these layers, the skin’s tension is relieved and the skin closure can be made with no harsh pulling. This results in a thin, discreet white line for your scar. The results are long-lasting due to the adjustment of the muscle and skin rather than lifting just the skin.

In summary, benefits of a deep plane facelift in DC include:

  • Overall improvement of the face and neck
  • Long-lasting results
  • Thin, discreet scarring

3 Benefits of a Mid Facelift in Chevy Chase, Maryland

Discover the possibilities with mid facelifts in Chevy Chase

Feeling like you have lost fullness in your cheeks? Not quite sure you need a full facelift? A mid facelift might be the perfect option for you.

Everybody is different. Some patients experience the entirety of their face skin drooping, while others only experience it in their cheeks. Mid facelifts are the perfect procedure for those who need a small touch-up to only the middle region of their face.

Benefits of a mid facelift in Chevy Chase include:

  1. Ability to correct one specific area of the face instead of your entire face
  2. Fullness of cheeks and under eyes
  3. Minimal incisions which results in quicker healing time

Welcome to our blog! If you’re looking for facelift before and after photos, please click here.

What’s a mid facelift?

A mid facelift is a cosmetic procedure done to tighten the skin from the upper mouth to eye region. This correction helps to reduce dissent of the cheek and under eye without making corrections to the forehead or jawline. Those who require more correction may need to consider a full facelift.

This procedure involves one small incision in the hairline and one small incision in the mouth. From this, the doctor is able to readjust, tighten, and lift the cheek tissue. This results in more facial fullness with minimal invasion.

Incisions typically take 1-2 weeks to heal but are easily concealed. Swelling and fullness is to be expected, but will subside as you heal. The procedure is performed with no hospital stay required.

What are other facelift options?

If a mid facelift is not fitting for your specific needs, there are other Maryland facelift options that may be more beneficial:

  • Full Facelift: This procedure corrects the face by tightening the skin and muscles of the entire face. Incisions are made in the hairline and behind the ear.
  • Brow Lift: This procedure focuses on the upper region of your face by lifting the forehead, therefore lifting the eyebrows and revealing the upper eyelids. Incisions are made within the hairline.
  • Neck Lift: This procedure specifically focuses on tightening the muscle within the neck and reducing sagging or droopy skin below the chin. Incisions are made just below the chin and behind the ear if necessary.

Are there non-surgical facelift options?

Although surgical intervention is typically the best remedy for loose facial skin, there are other less invasive options. Fillers and Botox can temporarily help to create fullness and smoothness in problem areas, similar to a facelift effect. Restoring your face’s youth is possible by maintaining regular injectable treatments, accompanied by thorough consultations with your doctor.

Why Bruno | Brown Plastic Surgery?

We take great pride in delivering extraordinary results and ensuring our patients are satisfied. Read reviews from our patients below:

“Well… what can a girl say, but, thank you, thank you, thank you! Dr. Bruno was kind, considerate and understanding of my needs. He took the time to explain the procedure to me, and what to expect after. He not only used the most current technique to perform my procedure, but also has a great bedside manner which helped me to feel like I was in the best hands. I can’t say enough positive things about him. I have recommended him to my friends and family.” – Heidi H.

“Dr Brown performed botox injections and I found him to be patient, skilled, and knowledgeable. I’ve had botox before with other plastic surgeons and come out looking lopsided with one eyebrow up and one drooping. I was nervous going in from my past experiences but Dr Brown listened to my concerns and took time to explain what he was doing and why. I am going back for my next injections and will continue to go back again.” – Leah H.

Rhinoplasty in Falls ChurchGetting a rhinoplasty in Northern Virginia

When it comes to rhinoplasties, consultations are critical. Patients typically come in with an idea of what they want their nose to look like, but the doctor will be able to tailor it to the patient’s specific facial anatomy. This requires thorough communication and understanding to ensure both the doctor and patient are on the same page.

During this consultation, you may discuss:

  • The various surgical techniques such as open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty
  • The option of non-invasive fillers
  • Your nose shape, width, and nasal size
  • Possible restricted breathing or other issues caused by a deviated septum

Open vs. closed rhinoplasty

There are two main techniques used when performing a rhinoplasty: open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty. After determining how you want to change the appearance of your nose, the doctor will choose the technique most fitting for the revisions needed.

Closed rhinoplasty procedures are performed when the patient is only concerned with the tip of the nose. Because this doesn’t require altering the bone anatomy of the entire nose, the doctor is able to only focus on the soft tissue within the tip. This results in fewer incisions and faster recovery.

Open rhinoplasty procedures are performed when the patient wishes to alter the entire size, shape, and width of the nose. This could mean straightening or slimming the bridge, evening a dorsal hump, altering the tip, or whatever else is needed to achieve the patient’s dream nose. This procedure requires more incisions than a closed rhinoplasty and affects a larger area, resulting in a longer recovery.

Rhinoplasty Recovery

Initial recovery from a rhinoplasty takes about 4 to 6 weeks. This includes incisions, majority of swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Final results may take up to a year, as the residual swelling lingers and can distort the underlying revisions. Certain activities can cause inflammation and prolong recovery, which is why it’s important to listen to your body.

Why should you trust Bruno | Brown for your Northern Virginia rhinoplasty?

The DMV hosts a plethora of medical professionals, all who have received numerous awards and recognitions. At Bruno | Brown Plastic Surgery, we differentiate ourselves by ensuring a process that prioritizes transparency and communication. From the consultation to the final result, we want our patients to be comfortable and happy.

3 Types of Rhinoplasty in Washington, DC

Dulles Rhinoplasty

Your guide to the 3 types of rhinoplasty in the DC area

Rhinoplasties are one of the most common cosmetic procedures in the world, popular for altering the shape and size of the nose. Also known as a nose job, the procedure can help individuals change the look of their nose, balance their facial features, and even have medical benefits such as improved breathing ability.

With advancing technology, doctors are able to achieve your ideal nose in a number of ways. There are three main techniques for nose correction, all which require different skill and expertise:

  • Traditional Rhinoplasty
  • Liquid Rhinoplasty
  • Revision Rhinoplasty

This blog will discuss the benefits and differences of each one.

Welcome to our blog! If you’re looking for rhinoplasty before and after photos, please click here.

1. Traditional Rhinoplasty

A traditional rhinoplasty is what you typically think of when you think of a nose job. This is the surgical approach to altering your nose anatomy in order to create better facial harmony.

Choosing to get your nose job in Washington, DC will give you access to the best doctors and most innovative techniques possible. Washington, DC rhinoplasty procedures can either be done open or closed.

  • Open Rhinoplasty: This is for patients who desire a full revision to their nose structure, whether it be altering the bridge profile, slimming the nose, changing the appearance of the tip, or manipulating the bone. This procedure does require bone-work, making it slightly more invasive and resulting in more incisions.
  • Closed Rhinoplasty: This is for patients who don’t need work to their bridge profile, structure, or bone, but rather are more concerned with the soft tissue of the tip of the nose. Because there is no bone-work, this approach is less invasive and requires less incisions.

Recovery for both approaches includes bruising, swelling, and some discomfort. Initial swelling will reside after 2 to 4 weeks, but final results may not be visible until 1 year.

2. Liquid Rhinoplasty in Washington, DC

A liquid rhinoplasty is a non-surgical procedure used for those who don’t need drastic altering or don’t want to commit to a full surgery. This procedure utilizes filler to fine-tune details and even out small abnormalities.

Patients who opt for a liquid rhinoplasty in DC often want to even out their dorsal hump, the ridge on the top of the nose. With just a few injections, the doctor can fill the uneven spaces and create the appearance of a straighter, more aesthetic nose shape.

This procedure requires no incisions and no surgical work to the bone or soft tissue, making recovery faster and results immediate.

3. Revision Rhinoplasty

Revision rhinoplasties are done when a patient has already had a rhinoplasty procedure, but wants further altering or corrective action. Because work has already been done in this area, this procedure can be trickier than the average rhinoplasty.

In order to understand your nose’s anatomy along with the previous adjustments, open rhinoplasties are often performed during a DC revision rhinoplasty. This allows the doctor to have full visualization and control of existing and future corrections.

Your recovery from your revision rhinoplasty in Washington, DC will differ depending on the extent of revision needed, but similar to recovery from a traditional rhinoplasty.

Why should I get a Washington, DC nose job?

Our doctors are skilled surgeons with years of experience. They have the knowledge and expertise to examine your nose, listen to your goals, suggest their professional opinion, and execute your rhinoplasty according to the consultation. Listen to what one of our patients had to say:

“I have been a patient of Dr. Bruno’s for several years now. He’s not only a talented surgeon, but he has a very gentle, comforting manner. I broke my nose recently, which would have been extremely traumatic if it weren’t for the calm and confident way he handled the situation. Based on past experience with him, I knew that he was the best person to do the surgery. The surgery was easy and painless and my nose looks great.” – Christine F.

The Perfect Derma Peel

The Perfect Derma Peel is considered medium strength and penetrates deeper than the Stimulator Peel. This treatment has long-lasting benefits, including the treatment of melasma, sun damage, fine lines, texture, large pores, and dullness. Because of the deeper penetration, you will shed skin during the healing process.

ZO 3 Step Peel

The ZO 3 Step Peel is a potent blend of salicylic, lactic, and trichloracetic acid (TCA) with retinol cream. These chemicals penetrate the epidermis and upper dermis to promote cell turnover, collagen production, and balancing of the skin’s moisture. This peel causes sloughing of the damaged topmost layers of skin, making the skin shed during recovery slightly more intense than our other peels.

Light Therapy

Our Skin Care Center offers two forms of light therapy: the Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) Photo Facial and LightStim Red Light Therapy. Light therapy is a unique treatment that uses the energy and wavelengths from light to rejuvenate and correct your skin.

Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) Photo Facial

The Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) Photo Facial targets unwanted discolorations in the skin using intense light energy. This includes mild sun damage, brown spots, freckles, redness, broken capillaries, fine lines, and irregular pigmentation. Treatment can be done on the face, neck, chest, and hands.

LightStim Red Light Therapy

LightStim Red Light Therapy uses wavelengths of light to penetrate deep into the skin, super-charging fibroblast cells to increase collagen production. This treatment gives the skin more volume and diminishes aging lines and wrinkles.

Studies show that when skin is exposed to LED light wavelengths, skin cells can regenerate up to 150% to 200% faster, while hydration can be increased by up to 600%.

Laser

Our Fractional Laser treatments are performed by our physicians and work by minimizing the appearance of fine lines, facial scars, and areas with uneven pigmentation. This treatment restores the health and vitality to your face in a series of 5 sessions. Treatment can be done to your lower eyelid, scars, or full face.

Everything to Know About Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation in Washington, DC

Sculpt your body and boost your breast volume at the same time with a fat transfer breast augmentation in DC!

Welcome to our blog! If you’re looking for fat transfer breast augmentation before and after photos, please click here.

Breast Augmentation With Fat Grafting, before and afterBreast augmentation procedures are among the most popular plastic surgery procedures in the world. Most of these augmentations are done using breast implants, but there’s another option that compliments your natural breast shape and treats stubborn areas of fat at the same time.

Fat transfer breast augmentations take unwanted fat from other areas of your body and use it to increase the size of your breasts without the use of implants. This approach results in a more subtle, natural looking result.

Here’s a step by step guide to getting a fat transfer breast augmentation in Washington, DC:

1. Have a consultation with your plastic surgeon

Having a consultation with your physician is vital to any cosmetic procedure process. Not only will it give you the opportunity to discuss your concerns and goals, it also allows your doctor to examine your current situation and determine the right plan of action.

During this consultation, you will discuss the difference between breast augmentation using implants and breast augmentation using fat grafting to ensure your doctor can reach your desired outcome appropriately. You will discuss your current breast shape, projection, and size and how you would like to see each factor change.

Your doctor will also explain liposuction and how it will be used during your procedure. You will discuss your target areas for fat removal, skin elasticity, current lifestyle and activity levels, and the difference between traditional tumescent liposuction and power-assisted liposuction.

2. Get the best liposuction in Washington, DC

In order to harvest the fat needed for your breast augmentation, your doctor will first need to perform liposuction. Your problem areas will be shaped and contoured with the wave of our magic sculpting wand.

This magic wand removes fat through suction, utilizing a thin metal tube that is worked into the layer of fat just below the skin. After the fat is removed, it will be harvested and processed for reuse.

3. Breast fat transfer in DC

Once the fat has been properly prepared for insertion, the doctor will inject it into the various layers of tissue within the breast using a special syringe. Your doctor will be able to customize the size and shape of your breast depending on the amount of fat harvested.

Your doctor will insert more fat than the goal amount because you will likely lose 1/3 to 1/4 of the fat during the healing process. Overfilling the breast will ensure your desired outcome.

4. Recovery from a breast fat transfer in Washington, DC

Recovery from a fat transfer breast augmentation is different from breast implant augmentation recovery. Because a fat transfer procedure is minimally invasive, recovery time is shorter and you can return to your normal activities sooner.

Your body does not have to adjust to a foreign object in the body or try to heal larger incisions, as you may experience with implant augmentation. You will experience bruising and swelling both in the breasts and at the liposuction site, but this will go away within 1-2 weeks.

5. DC fat transfer breast augmentation results

Both fat grafting and implant augmentations take time for the final result to develop. Fat transfer breast augmentations take up to 3 months to see the end results because the body gradually reabsorbs some of the fat injected into it. Breast implants can take up to 6 months for the implant to be fully settled.

The results from a fat transfer procedure will look and feel more natural. Because you are not inserting an implant, the shape and projection of your breast may not change drastically. Your breasts will heal to look “naturally bigger”.

For more information about breast fat transfer in Washington, DC, schedule your consultation today!

End Your Worries With an Endoscopic Brow Lift in Washington, DC

Endoscopic Brow Lifts: The secret to restoring a youthful face

People age differently, but everyone experiences sagging skin at some point. As our skin laxity changes, we start to notice its effect on the appearance of our face. Wrinkles, jowls, hooded eyes, and lower brows become more prominent. You may be tempted to do a full facelift, but you may only need a brow lift.

Welcome to our blog! If you’re looking for brow lift before and after photos, please click here.

What’s an endoscopic brow lift?

An endoscopic brow lift is a type of brow lift that involves a few incisions right inside the hairline through which the tissue is released and then suspended. By tightening the deeper layers of your face, this avoids excessive pulling of the surface skin which could leave you with a permanently surprised expression. This procedure is a perfect subtle change to improve the downward pull of your aging face.

Upper blepharoplasty or brow lift?

Patients often experience fullness in their upper eyelid and come in wanting surgery to correct it, but don’t realize the role their eyebrows are playing. The eyebrows are the elevators of our face, so when they start to drag down they can complicate other facial features.

In females, the eyebrows typically sit above the supraorbital rim. In males, they sit right at the supraorbital rim. Depending on where your eyebrows are positioned, you may be better qualified for a brow lift, upper blepharoplasty, or both. This is why it’s important to have a consultation with your doctor to discuss the overall anatomy of your face.

Getting a brow lift in Washington, DC

Your doctor will work with you to determine which brow lift procedure will best suit your lifestyle, needs, and goals. Our physicians prefer to consider the overall harmony of your facial features, so you may discuss other techniques that can be combined with this procedure.

Brow lift afterBrow lift before

During your consultation, you will discuss factors including:

  • Skin elasticity
  • Drooping brows
  • Shape of brows
  • Surgical technique
  • Degree of skin that is sagging
  • Hairline

The brow lift procedure takes about 1 to 2 hours to perform and does not require an overnight hospital stay. Swelling, soreness, and bruising is expected but will subside over the first week. Recovery will take about 2 weeks but you may not see full results for 4 to 6 weeks.
