At Bruno | Brown Plastic Surgery in Washington, DC, this innovative treatment is performed with expertise and precision to help clients achieve smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin. Let’s delve into the details of microneedling with PRP and how it can benefit you.

What is Microneedling with PRP?

Microneedling with PRP involves using a small mechanical pen device to create tiny channels in the skin’s surface. These micro-injuries stimulate the body’s natural healing process, prompting the production of collagen and elastin which are essential for skin elasticity and firmness. PRP derived from the patient’s blood is applied to the skin during the procedure to enhance the rejuvenation process further.

The procedure is relatively quick, with minimal discomfort and downtime, making it a popular choice for those seeking skin rejuvenation without extensive recovery periods.

5 Benefits of Microneedling With PRP

The combination of microneedling with PRP offers a range of benefits, including:

  1. Boosting Collagen Production: Stimulates the production of collagen, leading to firmer and more supple skin.
  2. Minimizing Scarring: Helps reduce the appearance of scars, including acne scars, promoting smoother skin texture.
  3. Improving Skin Tone and Texture: Enhances overall skin tone, reduces hyperpigmentation, and minimizes pore size.
  4. Addressing Aging Signs: Diminishes age spots, fine lines, wrinkles, and creases, resulting in a more youthful appearance.
  5. Treating Various Skin Concerns: Effective for treating rosacea, stretch marks, and promoting overall skin rejuvenation.

Microneedling with PRP vs PRP Injections

What’s the difference between microneedling with PRP and PRP injections?

These popular procedures are non-surgical treatments used to combat the signs of aging using natural components from your own body.

What is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma, referred to as PRP, is considered liquid gold in the cosmetic world. Platelets are blood cells that come from plasma, the liquid portion of whole blood. These blood cells play a key role in our body’s necessary growth healing functions. We are able to utilize PRP to support and accelerate the body’s natural healing process.

Microneedling with PRP benefits

Microneedling is a skin care treatment mainly focusing on the face and neck that uses tiny needles to prick your skin, encouraging collagen production. This treatment improves fine lines, wrinkles, pores, scars, stretch marks, hyperpigmentation, and “tech neck,” leaving your skin smoother and younger looking.

We use your own platelet-rich plasma to expedite healing and stimulate even more collagen and elastin for firmer, plumper skin. PRP’s healing benefits pair beautifully with the rejuvenating elements of microneedling. Microneedling with PRP recovery time may vary for each patient, but most patients recover within 5 days of the treatment. During this recovery time, you make experience redness, dryness, and flaking skin as your skin processes.

PRP injections use concentrated platelets from the patient’s own blood to accelerate the healing of various parts of the body. In the medical world, this includes injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints. In the cosmetic world, we use the same process to accelerate healing of the face, skin, and hair.

PRP skin rejuvenation therapy is an effective and non-invasive anti-aging treatment that is injected directly into the skin . It can help improve your skin tone and texture, tighten skin, and soften lines. This procedure is beneficial for those who struggle with specific problem areas.

Why Everyone Is Talking About Microneedling With PRP

What Is Microneedling With PRP?

Microneedling with PRP is a non-invasive facial cosmetic procedure that involves using a small mechanical pen to make tiny channels in the skin to trigger the body’s natural healing process. During this treatment, PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is taken from your blood and added to the channels just created on the skin of your face. This helps to revitalize your skin by reducing signs of aging, minimizing scars, and creating new collagen and elastin. As people age, collagen levels fall, and collagen fibers become weaker and thinner.

Despite the procedure also being referred to as the ‘Vampire Facial’, microneedling with PRP is safe to use and has very little downtime.

What Are The Benefits Of Microneedling With PRP?Microneedling Special

Microneedling with PRP is used to address a variety of cosmetic and health issues for a patient, including:

  • Boosting collagen production
  • Minimizing scarring
  • Decreasing the appearance of age spots
  • Reducing hyperpigmentation and pore size
  • Improving the appearance of rosacea
  • Treating stretch marks
  • Preventing premature aging
  • Helping improve skin tone and texture
  • Creating firmer and more even skin
  • New collagen and elastin produced

Where Else Can PRP Injections Be Used?

In addition to getting microneedling with PRP done, many other areas can be treated with PRP injections.

The top three areas are under the eyes, in the nasolabial folds, and to treat hair loss.

Under the Eyes: Eye bags are generally formed from strain around the eyes which can occur mainly due to lack of sleep, fluid retention, allergies, dermatitis, and/or heredity. The strain in your eyes takes away the blood and nutrients in that area. When PRP is applied, the tissue generates blood and nutrients for its active metabolism and growth to help regain the lost elasticity resulting in a smoother, more youthful appearance.

PRP Injections for Hair Loss

Nasolabial folds:  The nasolabial folds run from the nose to the corners of the mouth and are a natural feature of the face. As our skin ages and thins with time, lines start to form in this area and become etched on the surface. PRP can improve the appearance of these because it is a biological stimulator of collagen production. This means that it encourages the renewal and regrowth of one of the components in our skin that have started to diminish.

Hair Loss: If you have thinning hair, the growth factors found within PRP can help stimulate your hair follicle activity to promote new hair growth. PRP injections can help increase hair count, hair thickness, and lengthen the growth phase of the hair cycle. This treatment works well as a prevention measure for continued or early hair loss but works better on those whose hair loss is recent.

What Happens During The Procedure?

During a microneedling with PRP procedure, the mechanical action of the microneedling pen creates tiny channels at a specific depth in the skin. This triggers the body’s natural healing to process to fill in the channels by producing new collagen and elastin in the papillary dermis. In addition, new capillaries are formed for improved blood supply. By combining microneedling with PRP, the healing process starts faster and the recovery time is only between 4-6 days.

PRP is gathered by drawing a small amount of blood from your arm and placing it into a sterile tube to extract it. The PRP supercharges the benefits of microneedling, virtually eliminating side effects and speeding up recovery time.

Restore Aging Skin with Microneedling with PRP in Chevy Chase

Are you considering Microneedling with PRP in Chevy Chase?

Microneedling with PRP (also known as the ‘Vampire Facial’) uses a small mechanical pen to make tiny channels in the skin at a precise depth to trigger the body’s natural healing process. Microneedling will trigger the production of new collagen and elastin, improving the skin’s texture and tone. Unlike many ablative procedures, Microneedling with PRP has very few contraindications, is safe to use on all ethnicities, and has very little downtime or side effects.

Benefits of Chevy Chase Microneedling with PRP

micro-needling with PRPMicroneedling with PRP is a non-invasive procedure that uses the body’s own PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) to address a variety of cosmetic and health issues, including:

  • Minimizing scarring
  • Boosting collagen production
  • Reducing hyperpigmentation and pore size
  • Preventing premature aging
  • Treating stretch marks
  • Minimizing the appearance of age spots
  • Helping improve texture
  • Improving the appearance of rosacea

The Microneedling with PRP Procedure

The Microneedling procedure can take between 20-40 minutes with a recovery time of 4-6 days. First, PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is obtained by drawing a small amount of blood from your arm into a sterile tube and then separated out from the other elements of the blood using a centrifuge. The PRP is applied topically to your face during and after the microneedling procedure, which penetrates the top layer of the skin without damaging it. PRP also speeds up the healing process.

Your Chevy Chase aesthetician will work with you to determine how many sessions you will need to achieve your desired look. Depending on the severity of the texture of your skin, you may need anywhere from three to six sessions.

We Asked a Real Chevy Chase Patient About Her Microneedling with PRP Experience:

  • What does it feel like? Most of it isn’t that bad. It’s sort of a sandpapery feeling- maybe more of a vibration.
  • What was your recovery like? I had redness for a couple days, but nothing major.  You’ll leave the appointment fairly red and with your plasma still on your face, so I wouldn’t plan anything directly after.
  • Any helpful hints? Get the numbing cream and follow up with the ZO Skin Health product line they recommend for you. I’ve never had face creams work this well.
  • Best part? I have a plumpness and evenness to my skin I’d thought gone forever. My wrinkles and crows feet have softened, so I’ve been ok going without Botox (a huge milestone for me).
  • Would you do it again? Yes, absolutely.

“My goal has always been to keep my look as natural as possible, and I love that I’m actually fixing my skin from the inside, not just masking the problem. My skin looks healthier, plumper and more even, and certainly has a more youthful glow. I’d highly recommend IPL, microneedling with PRP and PRP injections, or any other combination that Bruno|Brown Plastic Surgery recommends specifically for you.”

Washington, DC Skincare Q & A With The Plastic Surgeons at B | B

Many of our patients come to us for all their skincare needs, from fillers, to Botox, to peels, and more. But most patients have quite a few questions about what procedures are right for them, what each procedure involves, and how it all works. Our doctors answer many of these burning questions in their recent Q & A

SkincareDr. Bruno and Dr. Brown discuss Skincare in Washington, DC

Q: I would love to know more about pre-cancerous facial peels. Is it a good thing, a bad thing, when do you do it?
A: Carefully targeted facial peels, in conjunction with a good skincare regimen, can help protect the skin from possible skin cancers. With proper skin preparation such that the cells are turning over and repairing themselves, coupled with sufficient protection, the skin can be stronger and healthier than if you did nothing.

Q: Who should use retinol? Do you use it around your eyes?
A: Retinol and all the retinoids are vitamin A or vitamin A derivatives. They work by helping the skin cells turn over and regenerate. They are essential in any good skincare program and most people should use them. They come in a variety of strengths or forms (0.25% Retinol to 0.1% tretinoin (Retin-A)) and should be chosen based on a patient’s skin evaluation, degree of damage, and desired effect. They are safe around the eyes bearing in mind that this is a very sensitive area, so a lower strength or decreased volume of product is often warranted.

Q: Is there an over the counter product women can reach? Or perhaps is there an ingredient that we should look for?
A: Fortunately, we are able to pack and ship our ZO Skin Health products from the office directly to you! However, if you haven’t been evaluated before and are looking to enter the realm of skincare gently, we recommend searching for Retinol-based products. Although it’s important to keep in mind that over-the-counter products do not have the same strength as what we carry. Additionally, we recommend that you limit the amount spent on OTC products because of this very reason. A good exfoliator, a repair-based product, and a protection product will do until you can get a proper evaluation.

MicroneedlingThe benefits of fillers, Botox, and other skin rejuvenation treatments

Q: When is it too late to get Botox? What about Microneedling—which is better for deeper wrinkles?
A: It is never too late for Botox treatments to help soften and reduce facial lines and wrinkles. For deeper wrinkles, sometimes other procedures or treatments can help when combined with Botox such as filler to help fill the wrinkle from the bottom up or fat grafting. Microneedling can also assist in softening small and/or superficial lines and wrinkles. Microneedling (and microneedling with PRP) can be performed on most patients, and it is almost never too late to use the techniques for the softening of fine lines and wrinkles. Microneedling does this by stimulating collagen production which in turn helps thicken the skin and give it more fullness, resulting in the reduction of lines.

Q: How do you get rid of brown spots/age spots?
A: Pigmented spots on the skin can arise for a variety of reasons. We recommend a skincare evaluation which can help determine the cause. Most commonly, flat brown or age spots are due to aging and sun exposure. These types of spots can be lightened with topical lightening creams such as hydroquinone, but may also be lightened or removed with IPL treatments (Intense Pulsed Light). Topical creams used daily or IPL done monthly can markedly reduce the discoloration.

Q: I heard not to get lip injections because if you don’t continue with it the wrinkles around your lips will be even worse, is that true?
A: Lip injections are mainly to increase the fullness and replace the volume of the lips to give the patient more “red area” of the lips where lipstick would be placed. Lip fillers can also be used to fill the lines on the upper and lower lip regions that radiate from the lips. Regardless of where fillers are placed in the lips, they tend not to be permanent and slowly resorb over time. Once fully resorbed, your lips will return to about the same as when you started placing fillers, they should not change much in appearance from there.
