Ozempic, also known as semaglutide, was approved for use in adults with type 2 diabetes in 2017 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). As defined on the Ozempic website, it is a “once-weekly medicine for adults with type 2 diabetes used to improve blood sugar, along with diet and exercise, and reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events such as heart attack, stroke, or death in adults with type 2 diabetes and known heart disease.”

Although not made specifically for weight loss, studies have shown weight loss can be seen as a result of taking the medication. When a patient experiences weight loss like they do on Ozempic, they may notice changes in their body. In an American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) survey, 60% of facial plastic surgeons reported seeing an increase of patients with complaints of “Ozempic Face.”

Ozempic Face happens when patients experience facial weight loss resulting in facial deflation and a prematurely aged appearance. Because of this, patients have turned to corrective procedures to bring youth and fullness back to the face. It is reported that around 25% of patients opt for corrective surgery and 25-50% of patients opt for injectables to mitigate the problem.

How Plastic Surgeons Approach Ozempic Face

Plastic and cosmetic surgeons have adapted to this demand and offered insights on what they think is best. In total, 15% of facial plastic surgeons surveyed recommend treating this situation exclusively with facial filler, 12% recommend face and neck lifts, and 2% recommend fat grafting.

Due to the nature of Ozempic, patients may experience weight gain once they stop using the medication. This could interfere with the corrective procedures mentioned above. The Procedure

Getting a Blepharoplasty in DC

Upper Blepharoplasty

The entire procedure normally takes between 45-60 minutes and can often be performed under local anesthesia.

Lower Blepharoplasty

Lower blepharoplasty procedures benefit patients with drooping skin or excess tissue along their lower eyelids. This procedure can address a variety of lower lid issues including eye bags, puffiness, dark under-eye circles, wrinkling, and droopiness. In severe cases, droopiness may reveal an increased amount of the whites of the eyes.

Lower blepharoplasty procedures can be done using either an external or internal approach.

The external approach, also called the skin-muscle approach, uses an incision made just below your lower eyelashes to remove the excess fat and skin. The hollow areas under the eye may be plumped by using the fatty excess from the eyelid or lifting the cheek. If weakness needs to be improved, the lower eyelid may be tightened.

The internal approach, also called the transconjunctival approach, uses an incision made just inside the eyelid to remove the excess fat. This fat can be repositioned more directly and hollows can be corrected. This type of procedure is preferred in younger patients or patients without eyelid weakness as the support structures of the eyelid are preserved more with this technique.

These procedures can take anywhere between 60-90 minutes.

Getting a Breast Lift in Chevy Chase

Getting Breast Implants in Chevy Chase
