Breast Reduction Before and After

How Long is Breast Reduction Surgery?

A standard breast reduction surgery takes between 3 to 4 hours. After your surgery, you should be able to go home; the surgery does not require an overnight stay at the hospital.

Once you are home, your recovery time is about 1 to 2 weeks, with your doctor’s approval!

Breast Reduction Surgery: What to Expect

During breast reduction surgery, patients are put under general anesthesia.

Typically, during a breast reduction surgery in Washington, DC, the surgeon will create an incision around the nipple and areola, extending downward along each breast. They will then remove any excess breast tissue, fat, and skin to reduce the size of the breasts and reshape them. Additionally, they will reset the nipple and the surrounding area, which is referred to as the areola.

If you have any questions or concerns about what your breast reduction surgery will look like, you should cover your entire procedure with one of our physicians during your consultations before your surgery.

I did a lot of research, and had multiple consults before ultimately choosing to move forward with my breast augmentation with Dr. Bruno. Of the multiple plastic surgeons I vetted, Bruno/Brown was by far the most articulate, thorough, professional and kind clinics. With any plastic surgery/operation, there is always a level of anxiety, because it is a big life decision, but they were able to put me at ease throughout the entire process. Their follow through has been equally impressive – Dr. Bruno called me the evening of my surgery to check on me, and his office called me the following morning to check on me as well. I cannot say enough good things about them, and would recommend them 10X over.

Am I Too Old for Breast Augmentation Surgery?

There is no maximum age limit for breast augmentation surgery. The minimum age requirement is 18 years old, but after that, women of any age can get a breast augmentation.

The myth that there is a maximum age for breast augmentation is simply not true. As long as your doctor approves the surgery, it’s possible at any age.

Get Summer-Ready with Liposuction in Washington DC

Are you struggling to get rid of stubborn fat despite following a healthy diet and regular exercise? Liposuction may be the solution for you. At Bruno | Brown Plastic Surgery, our board-certified plastic surgeons can provide you with all the information you need about the procedure. Check out this video of Dr. Brown walking through some of the most common questions he hears about liposuction.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction, or “lipo,” as some patients call it, is a surgery that removes excess fat and contours a certain part of your body. This cosmetic surgery targets specific areas of the body, resulting in a more defined and sleeker appearance. The procedure is quite popular and even celebrities opt for it.

Where on My Body Can I Get Liposuction?

Liposuction can be performed on various parts of the body, including:

These are just some common locations; ask your doctor if you have further questions.

What is the Typical Liposuction Recovery Like?

The recovery will look different depending on where and how intense your liposuction surgery is. Regardless you will need someone to drive you home after the procedure. The procedure should take between 1 to 4 hours in total.

The first 2 weeks

In the first few weeks, you will have to take it easy. Monitoring your incisions and scarring, making sure not to injure yourself further. Doing minimal activity is best for the healing process as well.

Weeks 3 to 4

You can start to do a moderate activity. Doing household chores and lowkey exercise, making sure not to do any highly intensive activity specifically for the area of the body you got the liposuction.

Weeks 4 and beyond

With approval from your doctor, you should slowly get the return to intensive activity. Going back to working out and returning to everyday activities.

This timeline may vary depending on your surgery and how fast you heal. Make sure you have a trusted surgeon and multiple follow-up consultations to determine the best timeline for your healing process.

What are the benefits and risks of liposuction? Before and after liposuction Washington DC

Benefits and risks will slightly differ based on where you get your liposuction.

Liposuction’s primary benefits include removing excess fat, resulting in a more sculpted figure. Liposuction can also treat conditions such as lymphedema, gynecomastia, Lipodystrophy syndrome, extreme weight loss after obesity, and lipomas. It’s important to note – liposuction is not a weight loss procedure; it is a body contouring procedure.

Some risks associated with the procedure include bruising, numbness, inflammation, and infection. However, by selecting a trusted and board-certified plastic surgeon, such risks can be minimized.

Where do I get the best liposuction in DC?

To Help You Prepare for Your Breast Augmentation, Here is a Recovery Timeline:

After you get a breast augmentation, you will be sore, have some bruising, and maybe have drains. Before getting a breast augmentation, the recovery timeline is essential so that you can take the necessary precautions.

  • Right after surgery: You might wake up groggy and a little disoriented. Not quite sore yet, but within the next few hours, you will feel more tender as the anesthetic wears off.
  • Your first two weeks:You are going to be sore. You should be able to do light activity but not high-intensity exercise or heavy lifting. You should be able to start driving a few days after surgery, as long as it is not too uncomfortable. Taking it easy for the first two weeks is essential to your recovery from surgery.
  • 2 to 4 weeks post-surgery: You will probably have a post-surgery consultation during this time. You should be able to start doing more medium-intensity activity (as long as your doctor approves it). Often for people, the 3rd and 4th week of recovery is when they can return to their regular workout routine.
  • 4 to 6 weeks post surgery: Your scars should be healing, and you should have a full range of motion back. As long as your doctor has approved you, you should be able to live your life normally!

Silicone vs. Saline Breast Implants: How to Choose the Right One for You

Have you been unhappy with the shape of your breasts and decided it’s time for breast augmentation? You might be wondering whether silicone or saline breast implants are better for you. We’ll help you make an informed decision by outlining the pros and cons of each type of implant and providing some factors to consider when making your choice.

Silicone vs. Saline Implants: Exploring Your Options with Bruno | Brown Plastic Surgery

Before we dive deep into the comparison of saline versus silicone implants, our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Brown, walks through your unanswered breast implant questions in the video below; check it out.

Make sure also to check out how to choose the best implant size for your shape.

What Are Silicone Implants?

Silicone implants are implants filled with silicone gel. These implants are offered to patients 22 years and older. The texture is more similar to your normal breast tissue, giving your breasts a perky and full shape.

What Are Saline Breast Implants?

Saline implants are implants filled with saline (sterile salt water). These implants are offered to patients over the age of 18 years old. They still provide a round and full shape but are less firm than silicone implants.

Pros and Cons of Silicone Implants:Before and after breast augmentation with breast implants

Silicone breast implants are a popular choice among patients for several reasons, but they also come with some downsides. Here are the pros and cons of silicone implants:

The pros of silicone implants are:

  •  More cohesive or firm than saline
  •  Tend to look more natural
  •  Easier to pick out sizing

The cons of silicone implants are:

  • If the implant ruptures, the gel may remain within the implant shell or escape into the breast implant pocket
  • Frequent MRIs to monitor implant

To learn more about the pros and cons of silicone implants and whether they’re right for you, visit Bruno | Brown Plastic Surgery’s breast augmentation page.

Pros and Cons of Saline Implants:

Saline breast implants are a good option for patients who want a more adjustable implant, but they also have some downsides. Here are the pros and cons of saline implants:Before and after breast augmentation with breast implants

The pros of saline implants are:

  • Limited risk of rupture
  • If implants rupture, the body absorbs the saline
  • Provides a full and round shape

The cons of saline implants are:

  • The implant may wrinkle, slosh, or ripple
  • Common to get revision surgery after feeling the implant

To learn more about the pros and cons of saline implants and whether they’re right for you, visit Bruno | Brown Plastic Surgery’s breast augmentation page.

Choosing the Right Implant: Factors to Consider When Deciding between Silicone and Saline Implants

There is no right or wrong decision when deciding the best implant for you. It is a personal decision that depends on your individual needs and preferences. Here are some factors to consider when deciding between silicone and saline implants:

  • The feel of the implant. If you struggle with texture or consistency, you might want silicone implants, which are firmer and feels more like your original breast tissue than the saline implant.
  • The danger of implant rupture. There will be a risk of both implants rupturing. However, consider the saline implant if you are specifically afraid of implant rupture. The saline implant is safer and better for your body in the long run.
  • Consider the size of your implant. For those who want larger implants, the silicone implant is often the choice as it has more sizes.

5 Things to Consider Before Getting a Tummy Tuck: Washington DC

Are you considering a tummy tuck to help you achieve your desired body contour? Before making a decision, there are several things you need to know about this surgical procedure.

Here are five factors to consider before getting a tummy tuck in Washington, DC:

1. Understanding tummy tuck surgery:

A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is a cosmetic surgery that removes excess skin and sculpts stomach areas. This procedure can also help tighten the muscles in your abdominal wall, resulting in a smoother and firmer profile. Patients often seek this surgery after pregnancy or following significant weight loss.

2.  What are the types of tummy tucks?

There are four types of tummy tucks. Our board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Bruno covers everything you need to know about the types of tummy tucks!

  1. Mini tummy tuck: This type is perfect for patients who only need a small amount of excess fat removed. Mini tummy tucks have smaller incisions, and the surgery takes less time than other tummy tucks.
  2. Regular/normal tummy tuck: This tuck targets the entire abdominal area from hip to hip. The normal tummy tuck is ideal for individuals with excess skin and fat on their entire abdomen and is often the most common type of tummy tuck.
  3. Extended tummy tuck: The extended tummy tuck is similar to a regular tummy tuck, but it extends further back and behind the hips. The surgery may also include liposuction to contour the area. This type of tummy tuck is recommended for those with excess skin and fat in the lower back and hips.
  4. Circumferential tummy tuck: The circumferential tummy tuck is a 360-degree tummy tuck that removes excess skin and fat from the entire torso. This procedure is ideal for individuals who have lost significant weight and have excess skin and fat in their back, hips, and abdomen.

To determine the perfect tummy tuck for you, consult your DC plastic surgeon, who will help you select the perfect procedure for your goals!

3.  What a tummy tuck can correct:Before and after Tummy Tuck Washington DC

Tummy tucks can address various concerns, including:

  • loose skin from weight loss
  • loose abdominal skin and muscles from pregnancy
  • hernia removal
  • problems with urinary incontinence

The most common reason for getting a tummy tuck, however, is to tighten muscles and excess skin.

4. Tummy tuck recovery:

A tummy tuck is not a minor procedure. Depending on your tummy tuck type, the recovery can be more intense than others. Typically for a traditional tummy tuck, your recovery should take about 6 weeks with a timeline that looks like this.

In the first two weeks, you are sore. Movement is limited, and you will probably be hunched over for most of that first week. You take it easy for those first few weeks.

The 2nd through the 4th week, you start to get more movement. No heavy or intense exercising (especially not in your lower abdominal area). You should start feeling better and be more comfortable returning to small daily activities.

You should almost return to normal from the 4th to the 6th week. With your doctor’s approval, you should be able to take on more activities and heavy lifting.

5. Finding the best tummy tuck surgeons in Washington, DC:Before and after tummy tuck Washington DC

Enhance Your Confidence with Labiaplasty in DC

What is Labiaplasty, and How Can it Boost Your Confidence?

Labiaplasty surgery, sometimes referred to as “vaginal rejuvenation” or “designer vagina“, is a procedure that resizes, reshapes, and/or reproduces labia minora and/or labia majora. This surgery is often for women who are uncomfortable with the appearance of this labia, to reduce physical discomfort and/or pain during sexual intercourse, and/or for gender-reaffirming surgery.

Labiaplasty makes you feel confident in how you look, and you start to feel like yourself again. If you don’t believe the hype, just check out the 94% “worth it” rating on RealSelf.

Understanding the Benefits of Labiaplasty for Women in DC

You should not be in pain or feel self-conscious; a labiaplasty can help with that.

Here are three main benefits of getting a labiaplasty:

  1. Reduces pain, discomfort, and/or irritation for those who are struggling
  2. Enhances the overall vaginal appearance
  3. Encourages confidence in intimate situations and with women’s vaginal appearance

The Labiaplasty Procedure: What to Expect from Start to FinishDr. Brown preforming a labiaplasty

The labiaplasty procedure takes place in a pretty sensitive area. It is important to us that you understand what the surgery will look like.

The labiaplasty procedure uses a variety of different surgical methods, all determined by what outcome you are looking for. Before the surgery, you will have at least one consultation with your surgeon to determine the best way to get the outcome you want.

The surgery is often some combination of trimming and reshaping of the labia. The whole procedure should take between 45 minutes to an hour, depending on what outcome you are looking for.

The recovery is very minor. Recovery time is minimal, but you should not perform any lower body exercises for at least two weeks after the surgery or until your surgeon give you the ‘okay.’ Most women start seeing results in the weeks and months after their procedure as the swelling reduces and scars diminish.

Facelift vs. Fillers: Which is the Best Choice for a Youthful Appearance?

Are you looking for a solution to combat the signs of aging such as wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin? Two popular cosmetic procedures are facelifts and fillers.

How do you decide which option is right for you? We’ll compare and contrast facelifts vs. fillers to help you make an informed decision.

Facelift: The Ultimate Solution for Deep Wrinkles and Sagging Skin

A facelift procedure is a surgery that combines surgical and non-invasive techniques to give you that snatched, supple face you had when you were young. Facelifts were the third most popular cosmetic procedure in 2020, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. A facelift often combines a variety of different techniques and procedures into one. To get the perfect youthful skin you once had, you will have to have a consultation to figure out the perfect facelift surgery for you.

Facelift Benefits:
Facelift results can make you appear 12 years younger! Here are just some of the benefits:Before and after Facelift

  • Targets lose or sagging skin
  • Erases fold lines
  • Gets rid of fat that has fallen
  • Chisels your jawline
  • Can help with double chins

Facelift Risks:
Like every surgical procedure, facelifts can cause complications. This is why we recommend board-certified plastic surgeons. Facelift risks include but are not limited to:

  • Hematoma
  • Scarring
  • Facial hair loss
  • Skin loss
  • Nerve injury

Before you proceed, all risks should be covered in your consultation with your surgeon.

Fillers: The Non-Surgical Solution for Mild to Moderate Signs of Aging

Fillers are the non-invasive alternative to the surgical facelift procedure. Fillers are small injections to create smoother skin and a fuller appearance.

Benefits of Fillers:Dr. Bruno giving facial fillers
Fillers have a smooth and youthful effect on your skin. Some of the benefits of dermal fillers include:

  • Fuller wrinkles
  • Smooth lines on the skin
  • Restore volume to your face

Risks of Fillers:
Filler injections can have risks that you need to consider; some of these include:

  • Asymmetry
  • Eruption of acne
  • Bruising, scarring, wounds
  • Infection
  • Lumps
  • Skin irritation

Factors to Consider When Choosing Between Facelifts vs. Fillers

Both facelifts and fillers are effective ways to get that gorgeous youthful skin back to its prime. There are several factors to consider when deciding between a facelift and fillers, including:

  • A facelift will last longer than fillers. Face fillers are injections, similar to Botox; you will have to continue to go back to the doctor to continue to maintain that look.
  • Facelift is a surgical procedure. A facelift takes about 3 to 5 hours with a recovery time of 2 to 3 weeks. While fillers take 20 to 30 minutes and there is no recovery time.
  • Face fillers do not target the elasticity of the skin. In a facelift, you get the added benefit of getting rid of excess fat and sagging skin, which fillers do not address.

If you’re considering a facelift or fillers, schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon to discover your best anti-aging solution today.
